Have you seen this?

This is a non-native invasive weed called HOG WEED and apparently, is spreading all over North America. It is dangerous to touch the sap of this plant as it causes burns and blindness.

A few years ago, while I was in Atlanta, Georgia, I discovered another invasive non-native plant known as Kudzu. This plant is a climbing, coiling plant which literally smothers trees and any plant in its way.

I have visions of a hitch-hiking plant disguised with glasses and a moustache at the side of the 401 with a sign saying "Anywhere"?

  1. I know about Kudzu, but don't know anything about Hog Weed.....wonder if we have it here in Missouri?

  2. It apparently is a "native" of somewhere. One wonders where and how it got there? Love your analogy of the hitchhiker.....LOL .....as the car speeds past with a toot on the horn!! CathyG

  3. They just did a story on the news about hog weed. I have never heard of it before but it is becoming a problem near Halifax. Apparently direct sunlight activates the toxin. Be careful!

  4. Kudzu can cover a Volkswagon in less than a week, so I read sometime back. It is from the Far East.
Probably came over in a suitcase to smother us...LOL
